Ron Wasserman   BASS

Ron Wasserman, a fourth generation musician and lifelong New Yorker, has an unusually diverse track record of performing, composing, commissioning, and producing music. Since his first professional gig in 1979 at age 18, Ron has logged close tor 5,000 performances in virtually every performing arts genre imaginable, the majority of them as the principal bassist of the NYC Ballet Orchestra, which he joined in 1988. In 2014, tiring of just playing the bass line, he started a jazz big-band to perform his own compositions which he conducts. He soon decided it would be better, and much more fun to add works by a diverse array of composers from different genres, hence the New York Jazzharmonic began its life.

His own jazz and classical music fills now five CDs with several more in the works, including one with his full 17 piece band, which was recorded in 2019. During the pandemic, Ron has been remotely recording a series of duos with bass and various instruments (cello, piano, viola, bandoneon) to commissioned scores, again with an emphasis on his own works, and commissions from women composers. And most interestingly, in searching for pandemic projects, Ron found himself directing videos within the budding genre of video ballets. His Curbside Nutcracker got close to 1/2 million views on social media.
